February 16, 2010; Washington City Paper
| It's not news that former D.C. mayor, now Council member, Marion S. Barry, appears to be in trouble again. The news is what's he's been accused of this time. Already under fire for steering public funds to what the Washington City Paper calls two "fishy nonprofits," Sharon Wise, who served as the agencies' project manager until she blew the whistle on Barry and a staffer, now charges that the former mayor "frequently requested sexual favors from her." According to a newly released investigation into Barry's alleged misdeeds, the City Paper reports that "when asked if Barry had 'ever requested a sexual favor,' Wise stated in her deposition: 'He probably suggested it 562 times.'" These include requesting Wise sit on his lap or give him a hug. According to investigators, Wise rejected Barry's advances by saying, "Have you lost your mind?" We don't know what Barry said. But we think we know the answer.—Bruce Trachtenberg
