Your last point is right on, though that the case raises great questions about board development, leadership, roles, etc. I spent yesterday conducting two forums on financial topics for groups of nonprofits in two small cities in western Minnesota. Though the stated topic was budgets and 990s, both discussions developed into ideas about board development, and in particular about board roles and engagement in the business of the nonprofit. It's a huge issue for organizations of all sizes.
